Lawrence O’Donnell Dropping Ether

I have a general dislike for most of the media, particularly 24 hour cable news networks.  24 hours of non-stop coverage and yet I feel like we’re getting even less real information and becoming less informed the more we watch.  The same stories rehashed from hour to hour, the same guests recycled between stations.  No real debate or analysis of the information given.  Just a giant whirlwind of talking points and soft ball questions and hypocrisy and very little truth.  And I say this of all the networks, CNN, MSNBC and Fox News.  If someone from Fox News tells you that they are more informed than an MSNBC watcher because Fox News gives them more facts, they’re lying.  If a MNSBC viewer says they are more informed from watching MSNBC than a Fox News watcher….they’re lying.  None of the stations give very much substance.  None.  They’re all generally one big mixing bowl of shit during the day with biased opinions in the evening/night sprinkled on top.  This is what our “media” has become.

Now all that said, I do give credit where credit is due.  Some commentators, while bias do try to do more than just scream into the camera or give regurgitated talking points.  Some do try to use their brain and ask the questions that really need to be asked.  Lawrence O’Donnell is one of those people.

Lawrence O’Donnell is a headhunter.  He doesn’t snatch wigs or scream at you in your face.  He just rips your head off in such a clean and calm way it’s almost surgical.  Case in point, back in 2009 when he shoved his foot down Glenn Greenwald’s throat and then used him to kick rocks.  Greenwald was going into his bitching about how the President and his Health Care bill wasn’t liberal enough and O’Donnell snatched his head clean off when he explained that Greenwald wasn’t really a progressive but just a pretend. O’Donnell’s wrath isn’t aimed at liberals or conservatives but rather people who bullshit him.  Before having his own show on MSNBC, he was only rarely brought in on major debates because he would run circles around Joe Scarborough’s attempts to sound intelligent and just embarrass Joe on his own program.  So he would only be brought in sparingly cause once he goes off,  no one is safe.

Which brings me to last night.  Lawrence O’Donnell was set to interview Craig Sonner, George Zimmerman’s lawyer.  You know, the same lawyer going around to other media outlets talking about how Zimmerman is a nice guy and shot Trayvon Martin in self defense and that Zimmerman is the real victim here.  That Craig Sonner.  Well apparently right before the show was going to straight, Sonner who was in the MSNBC Orlando studio, got up and walked out before the interview was going to happen.  Apparently he realized how stupid it was for him to sit down with a headhunter like Lawrence O’Donnell who wasn’t going to sit there and feed him softball questions.  That might have seemed like a smart idea, but the roasting that came later from O’Donnell might have Sonner questioning that strategy.  Lawrence O’Donnell, clearly upset that Sonner ran, not only laid into Sonner & his client but then started asking the empty chair that Sonner has been sitting in 5 minutes before all the tough questions that needed to be asked.

But wait…there’s more.  After this segment, O’Donnell then interviewed a reporter from the Orlando Sentinel and asked her to defend the thought process of printing what were obvious attempts by the Sanford Police department to slander the character of Trayvon Martin.

The man was on a roll last night and I gotta say that it was refreshing to finally see someone stand up for the victim of this crime instead of trying to take the word of a coward and his friends.
