The trailer makes me think this could either be good (X-men good, not Batman Begins or Spiderman good) or really bad (Fantastic Four bad, not Daredevil or Punisher bad). It really comes down to if Nicolas Cage can break out of his monotonous acting style. I used to be a Nicolas Cage fan. Really. I loved (and still do) his movies. One of my favorite movies is ‘The Rock”. I mean damn…is there a better exchange than:
Connery: ‘Losers always whine about doing their best…winners go home and fuck the prom queen’
Cage: ‘Carla was the prom queen…’
He was in some tough ass movies. ‘ConAir’, ‘FaceOff’, ‘Snake Eyes’, ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’, etc. But it was after that sorry ass movie ‘8mm’ that I began to realize something. This fucker plays the same character in every fucking movie. What character is that you ask? Well, he plays a BITCH, in every fucking movie. In ‘The Rock’ he was a bitch ass FBI Special Agent. In ‘ConAir’ he was a bitch ass ex-con. In ‘Snake Eyes’ he was a bitch ass crooked cop. In ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ he was a bitch ass car thief. In ‘FaceOff’, he was originally a bad ass…but then there was the whole ‘face change’ and he became a bitch ass, ‘bad guy’. Shit, call the Justice Department, this man has a monopoly on ‘Bitch’ in Hollywood. When I first noticed this shit, it was like my whole world was collapsing. This man has made a career on being a bitch on screen. And when he tries being a bad ass, it just doesn’t fit him. For instance…in ‘ConAir’…what the fuck was up with that sorry ass accent? I haven’t heard anything that bad since Halle Berry was sounding like a jafakin (fake Jamaican) in X-men. Then there’s his ‘blank man’ look he gets when he’s trying to be serious. It really doesn’t instill fear cause its almost as if his bottom lip is about to quiver and he’s about to break out in tears any second. Seriously…I want you to think about this. When is the last time Cage did a movie and did NOT cry? Now ask yourself this: Do you want to see Ghost Rider cry? He has a head that is on fire…there’s no crying with that.

I too was a Cage fan, and I too have noticed the monopoly. My world was crushed around the time I saw that movie where he played a con man being conned (I forgot the name). It was like a light went off, and I haven ‘t been able to look at him the same since.
